This was the day before the race to pick up their package |
Boy was my weekend busy with fun and excitement! The girls and I learned about health and wellness at an Expo on Saturday and then we attended The Biggest Loser FunRun Race which benefits the Kids Fit Foundation. The race was at Six Flags Over Georgia.
My daughters has been looking forward to attending this event for weeks! We got all our athletic gear prepared for it.
The purpose of this race was to get kids more active. In this day in age, children are so accustom to just wanting to sit and play with their electronics, watch TV all day, and including eating poorly, which is leading to childhood obesity.
My oldest daughter Lauren doesn't like to go out and play, she just wants to either read all day or watch TV. I don't know what happen but I want her to get out and play more.
There were several different races going on before the kids FunRun race started. There were two adult races, one being 5K and the other 10K. When we pulled into Six Flags, I seen some of the adult runners already started their race.
While we were waiting for the FunRun race to start, we walked around and took some pictures with the Atlanta Hawks Mascot and took some pictures in front of The Biggest Loser's Banner.
20 minutes has past and it was time for my girls and I and the other children to begin our race. The past contestant from The Biggest Loser Show greeted us and did the count down. 3...2...1 and we were off to do our 1 mile race! My daughters shot pass me and left me in the dust! LOL!
Past contestant is the guy in the middle. He lost over 100lbs on the show |
Lauren legs started to burn right at the beginning of the race and she started walking very slowly. My youngest daughter Michelle kept on going and left us behind (I may have a future track star). I kept motivating Lauren to keep going but she kept complaining that her legs hurt, so I just walked the rest of the race with her.
Towards the end of the race, I had Lauren run the last feet before the finish line. At the finish line, Lauren received her prize medal and Michelle, Mr. M, and Grandma was there to greet us.
Mr. M suggested that we all as a family need to start running more and in our free time over the weekends take a jog somewhere. I totally agree with his suggestion.
Race was now over and since we were already at Six Flags and participants received a discount on ticket purchase to go to their amusement park that day, we decided to keep our legs moving and go.
Since living here in Atlanta for the past 7 to 8 years, we have never gone to Six Flags before. Being already there at Six Flags was the prefect opportunity to go and let loose.
We had a wonderful family outing at the race as well as Six Flags. The family and I will continue staying active and start getting fit!
If you're interested in participating in The Biggest Loser FunRun race for kids they're currently having a race series going on and you can check their website to see if they're coming to a town near you.
How are you and your child (children) staying active?
Disclosure- I attended the event for free to give my feedback. All opinions are my own.
My husband tries to keep us all active by doing yard work.. .I am so guilty about not getting out there and doing as often as I should but it would help us get fit!
ReplyDeleteOh don't feel ashamed Aimee. I need to do better getting more active too.
DeleteWhat an awesome way to get kids to be more active. We have a six flags here in New England, but we only go once a summer because it's about 90 minutes away!
ReplyDeleteYeah that's a bit far.
DeleteI'd love to do a family run sometime soon. It's a great way to work together as a team!
ReplyDeleteHubs and I just ran our first 1/2 marathon, so we stay fit regularly. playgrounds and walks around the block are what our 3 year old demands. we set an example.
ReplyDeleteGosh Lindsey, I need to be hanging out with you guys!
DeleteI'm fortunate that both my (grown) boys are quite active and in shape. Me? I mostly exercise my fingers (and no, I'm not proud of it). Looks like you and your girls had a blast over the weekend! Thanks for sharing the great activities.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you Susan, I have some strong fingers but need to get the rest of myself active.
Deleteshe finished, that's all the matters. i hate running but I do it to keep healthy
ReplyDeleteYeah that is all that matter and also we weren't in last place either so that made us feel good.
DeleteWhat a fun thing to do as a family! How nice that they gave you discounted tickets for the amusement park- what a perfect day!
ReplyDeleteYeah the day turned out awesome Shell!
DeleteMy girls (9 & 11) just signed up for track. They discovered running last year and both love it!
ReplyDeleteI hope both of my girls become interested in track too.
DeleteThis looks like a great event. I love to see families enjoying fitness together!
ReplyDeleteMy kids and I love to work out in the yard. Pulling weeds and pushing the mower is good excersize, but I need to add more evening strolls to the schedule now that the weather is getting nicer!
ReplyDeleteThere's a Six Flags Magic Mountain just over an hour from us, here in California. We love to go there. There's plenty to do for adults and the littler ones. As for the running, it's not for me. But,,I do enjoy a brisk walk outside, more than on my treadmill.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I've never done a fun run, but this looks like a blast!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful event! I love that they're trying to encourage kids to be more active!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great event. Sounds like you and your girls had a great time. It's such a good thing to get active together.
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of fun and fitness with this whole event. And you may indeed have a track star in the making.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz!
DeleteI love that you all did it - and she finished, which is important. Looks like you all had fun!
ReplyDeleteI love this event and the fact that both of your daughters did it (and that they both finished, regardless if they were running or walking.) We try to limit our son's time on technology. He's only 2.5, but he loves being outside. Winter was so tough on us, but oh how I love spring!
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm very proud of all of us! I can't wait to do it again!
DeleteIt looks like you had a lot of fun! How great to get the kids involved.
ReplyDeleteAh, I wish that event would come to Six Flags St. Louis (I know I said that before!). Looks like a quality day spent with your two cuties. Love the gif! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is one coming to St. Louis on July 13th. Contact me if you want to attend.
DeleteI love how you involved your girls! I think it's awesome how you are encouraging them and making it fun. I really want to get my daughter involved in something like this, at least walking, when she is old enough.

Deletewe stay active by having my kids in gymnastics, bowling and golf. That keeps us all busy.
ReplyDeleteIt's warm now so we're at the the park a lot! We're also doing yard work (yep, kids too) and my little one and I practice for his T-Ball.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a lot of fun Rosey!
