Did you know I don't drink milk- at all? I haven't drank milk in years because first I'm lactose intolerance and plus I don't like the taste of it. I get away of eating dairy products like yogurt without upsetting my stomach but if it's just drinking milk straight from the glass, off to the bathroom I go! (I know TMI!)
So what I've been using to substitute milk is either drinking rice milk or at times when rice milk is not available almond milk.
I got in on a bzzcampaign through BzzAgent to try out the new Silk® Protein+Fiber Almondmilk. BzzAgent provided me with 1 free coupon to purchase the almond milk in-store and as well as provided me with 3 $1.00 off coupons to buy some more later.
Here are some details about Silk® Protein+Fiber Almondmilk:
- Packs 5g of protein, 5g of fiber and 100 calories or less per serving
- Provides 50% more calcium than dairy milk*
- May help keep you feeling full (increasing protein and fiber in your diet can help promote satiety!)
- Enjoy Silk® Protein+Fiber Almondmilk anywhere you’d use your favorite milk — over cereal, in smoothies or straight up in a glass
- Available in Original and Vanilla.
- Diary, Gluten, and Soy- Free
*45% DV calcium versus 30% DV in dairy milk. USDA National Nutrient Database for Std. Ref, Release 26. Data consistent with typical 2% dairy milk.
My Review
I chose to try out the vanilla flavored almond milk for my review. I poured myself a glass first to taste it before adding it to my morning oatmeal. The consistency of the almond milk is a bit too thick for my liking ( the reason why I don't buy almond milk often).
The flavor had a bit of an odd taste but the vanilla almond flavor over powered that. But the taste was too sweet. When I added the almond milk to my oatmeal it made my oatmeal way too sweet and thick. This almond milk I feel to me works best in smoothie drinks. I believe the original flavor would be less sweet and work better with my morning breakfast meals.
Silk® provides great recipes with their almond milk
Here is a smoothie recipe to try out:

I have to be honest, I tried almond milk on its own and I didn't like it. I drink regular cow's milk and LOVE it, so I think the taste maybe just wasn't what I was expecting or something. I would totally try it in a smoothie, though!
ReplyDeleteYeah Robin you got to have a taste for almond milk to enjoy it. It is way different than drinking milk.
DeleteI recently started using Silk Almond milk for my green smoothies. I tired to drink it with cookies like I would with regular low fat milk, and the taste was too different for me. I agree, almond milk is great for smoothies!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't drink almond milk with cookies either, just way too sweet for me. I would just stick with smoothies.
DeleteAlmond milk is the only thing I put in my coffee now. More taste, more protein, less calories per cup!
ReplyDeleteThat's true Lindsey and a lot better than using milk and creamer.
DeleteSounds like its packed with all kinds of good things!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is Stephanie!
DeleteGood idea, I will try it!!
ReplyDeleteTry it and let me know what you think Jodi.
DeleteI haven't seen the Protein+Fiber variety; I wonder if that changes the taste any. I've been drinking only almond milk since Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI love BzzAgent!
Hey Cassandra! The taste is different than the almond milk without protein and fiber. I prefer the regular almond milk over this one.
DeleteI've never had ginger in a smoothie. I'll try it out. Thanks for the review, Lou!
ReplyDeleteHey Kim! Ginger gives the flavor a bit of a kick but don't use too much though.
DeleteI think your child would like it Kendra. Try the original kind that has less sugar.
ReplyDeleteThe smoothie sounds wonderful. I really enjoy almond milk in my smoothies.
ReplyDeleteI've never made a smoothie with Almond Milk. That looks great! My daughter is lactose intolerant, this would be perfect for her.
ReplyDeleteTry it out Stacie and see what you think.
DeleteOh I havn't tried this yet, so I guess I need to get with the program. Sounds delicious anyway. Thanks tons for the visit, I am having such fun scrounging everywhere for new accessories.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Marty! I love all the creative decor on your blog!
DeleteI love Silk so much that the mere mention of this product would have me running off to the store to buy it! (But I haven't been to my grocery store in quite some time, so thank you for this review, because I hadn't heard of it before!)
ReplyDeleteI've been buying Silk for years, not because I'm lactose intolerant -- I'm not. I just prefer to limit my intake of dairy for dietary reasons. I started buying their soy milk back in 2003, and then graduated to their regular non-sweetened almond milk a few years later, and have been buying it ever since...
That smoothie looks divine! Currently, my go-to morning smoothie has been blueberries, banana, oatmeal, and flax seed (with splenda for extra sweetness.) YUM!
Another great review, Louida!
Hey Courtney! I use to always buy Silk's Soy Milks back in the day and then ventured off to rice milk and love it! Almond milk is good but the vanilla flavor is just way too sweet. I need to only buy the unsweetened kind from them.
DeleteNow your smoothie sounds really good girl and you make me want to blend up a smoothie now!
Happy to read your honest review. So many people love everything they review. I had been drinking coconut milk, but I may try another dairy free alternative soon. I may just try making my own coconut milk.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sonya! I love being honest with my reviews. I hate it when people just put glowing reviews when they truly don't like the product. I won't bash the company but I would tell the good and also what I didn't like about it.
DeleteI'm not much of a coconut fan but never tried coconut milk before.
I should give this a try. I don't like the taste of milk either. The only time I liked drinking it was when I was pregnant.
ReplyDeleteYou should Shell, you may like it.
Deletetheir products are pretty great. i have used coconut and almond milk before in smoothies!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves making smoothies with Silk! Thanks for the new recipe!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so yummy! I've never tried the Silk almond milk before. I guess I assumed it would taste weird but I really should give it a try!
ReplyDeleteI use their Almond Milk every day. Haven't tried the added fiber formula yet.
ReplyDeleteI really like their almond milk, but I've never tried their flavors before. I like that they have added protein because it's one of my issues with almond milk that it is lower than other milk substitutes.
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves Silk soy milk and we drink it all the time. We haven't tried the Almond milk though. I think I might pick up some this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried Almond milk. My husband and daughter tried it and agreed with you that it was sweet, but they liked it on unsweeetened cereal.
ReplyDeleteI recently tried Almond Milk for the first time and I love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've heard it's really good for smoothies. My DIL drinks it, even with her cereal if I'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteI used Almond milk when nursing my son. He didn't handle dairy well and the Almond Milk was great in cereal and in my coffee!
ReplyDelete~Amanda
I don't drink either as a vegan. I do use almond milk on occasion
ReplyDeleteLove Silk! I use it in my coffee and to bake with. It's thicker than other non dairy milk and that's the way I like it!
ReplyDeleteMy friend makes her own almond milk and says its a much better consistency. Maybe worth a try? I have texture issues but I could handle smoothies I think.
ReplyDeleteI already buy Silk Almond milk but haven't seen this version yet. I will be buying this when it comes out!
ReplyDeleteI don't drink Almond milk. I don't like milk in general. However, my youngest son drinks this and he loves it. #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteWow! I can't go without rice milk Victoria.
DeleteI've never tried ginger in my smoothies despite making them on a weekly basis. I'll have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI don't drink cow's milk anymore. I do like the Silk brand of almond milk and I get coconut milk instead of cow's milk, too.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried their Protein almond milk before but I do drink it almost daily in smoothies. LOVE their almond milk for that. I am going to try their chocolate milk version. I wonder how that would taste to fuel me after my workouts. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it would taste good.
DeleteI have never tried almond milk myself. I think smoothie would be a good way to start.
ReplyDeleteLove Silk. Almond milk is awesome.
ReplyDeleteYUM! I always add Silk to my smoothies! It's a great addition.
ReplyDeleteI don't have problems with milk but have tried Almond milk in the past and enjoyed it. I'd add it to my protein drinks in the morning
ReplyDeleteAlmond milk with Cheerios seems to taste like a sinfully delicious treat. I do find the nutty flavor a bit overpowering if drinking straight from the carton. I'll try the smoothie to see how that tastes.
ReplyDeleteI actually had an allergic reaction to Almond protein+fiber, which was weird to me since i had the regular, chocolate and vanilla. i had the Almond milk protein+fiber with cheerios and i found it to be very sweet. The next day i woke up i had tiny bumps all over my skin :(
ReplyDeleteIt could've been the fiber. Sorry you had an allergic reaction, that stinks! :-(
