Did you know I don't drink milk- at all?  I haven't drank milk in years because first I'm lactose intolerance and plus I don't like the taste of it.  I get away of eating dairy products like yogurt without upsetting my stomach but if it's just drinking milk straight from the glass, off to the bathroom I go!  (I know TMI!)

So what I've been using to substitute milk is either drinking rice milk or at times when rice milk is not available almond milk.

I got in on a bzzcampaign through BzzAgent to try out the new Silk® Protein+Fiber Almondmilk.  BzzAgent provided me with 1 free coupon to purchase the almond milk in-store and as well as provided me with 3 $1.00 off coupons to buy some more later.

My Review

I chose to try out the vanilla flavored almond milk for my review.  I poured myself a glass first to taste it before adding it to my morning oatmeal.

The consistency of the almond milk is a bit too thick for my liking ( the reason why I don't buy almond milk often).

The flavor had a bit of an odd taste but the vanilla almond flavor over powered that.   But the taste was too sweet.  When I added the almond milk to my oatmeal it made my oatmeal way too sweet and thick.  This almond milk I feel to me works best in smoothie drinks.  I believe the original flavor would be less sweet and work better with my morning breakfast meals.

Silk® provides great recipes with their almond milk

Here is a smoothie recipe to try out:

Fruity Filler-Upper

1 cup of Silk® Protein+Fiber Almondmilk

1/2 Cup Blueberries

1/2 Cup Mangos

1/2 Cup Pineapples

1/2  Tsp Grated Fresh Ginger

1/2 Cup Ice

Blend until delicious

Is Silk® Protein+Fiber Almondmilk Vanilla Worth a Try?

I believe that this almond milk works prefect for smoothies and desserts.  Just way too sweet to drink and adding it to cereal.  If you're not bothered by sweet drinks or it being thick, then you would like this.

Have you tried Silk® Protein+Fiber Almondmilk Vanilla before?  If so, what are your thoughts about it?

  1. I have to be honest, I tried almond milk on its own and I didn't like it. I drink regular cow's milk and LOVE it, so I think the taste maybe just wasn't what I was expecting or something. I would totally try it in a smoothie, though!

  2. I recently started using Silk Almond milk for my green smoothies. I tired to drink it with cookies like I would with regular low fat milk, and the taste was too different for me. I agree, almond milk is great for smoothies!

  6. I haven't seen the Protein+Fiber variety; I wonder if that changes the taste any. I've been drinking only almond milk since Christmas.

    I love BzzAgent!

  12. I love Silk so much that the mere mention of this product would have me running off to the store to buy it! (But I haven't been to my grocery store in quite some time, so thank you for this review, because I hadn't heard of it before!)

I've been buying Silk for years, not because I'm lactose intolerant -- I'm not. I just prefer to limit my intake of dairy for dietary reasons. I started buying their soy milk back in 2003, and then graduated to their regular non-sweetened almond milk a few years later, and have been buying it ever since...

That smoothie looks divine! Currently, my go-to morning smoothie has been blueberries, banana, oatmeal, and flax seed (with splenda for extra sweetness.) YUM!

    Another great review, Louida!

    1. Hey Courtney! I use to always buy Silk's Soy Milks back in the day and then ventured off to rice milk and love it! Almond milk is good but the vanilla flavor is just way too sweet. I need to only buy the unsweetened kind from them.

Now your smoothie sounds really good girl and you make me want to blend up a smoothie now!

  13. Happy to read your honest review. So many people love everything they review. I had been drinking coconut milk, but I may try another dairy free alternative soon. I may just try making my own coconut milk.

    1. Thanks Sonya! I love being honest with my reviews. I hate it when people just put glowing reviews when they truly don't like the product. I won't bash the company but I would tell the good and also what I didn't like about it.

I'm not much of a coconut fan but never tried coconut milk before.

  19. I really like their almond milk, but I've never tried their flavors before. I like that they have added protein because it's one of my issues with almond milk that it is lower than other milk substitutes.

  37. Almond milk with Cheerios seems to taste like a sinfully delicious treat. I do find the nutty flavor a bit overpowering if drinking straight from the carton. I'll try the smoothie to see how that tastes.

  38. I actually had an allergic reaction to Almond protein+fiber, which was weird to me since i had the regular, chocolate and vanilla. i had the Almond milk protein+fiber with cheerios and i found it to be very sweet. The next day i woke up i had tiny bumps all over my skin :(
