Last week, I was invited to attend a fashion show at Macy's Lenox Mall in Atlanta that was hosted by Emme, the first plus size super model!
Since I couldn't go to New York Fashion week (yes, I got invited to attend a fashion event in New York but not at Mercedes-Benz), it felt good to be able to go to a fashion show near my home.
When I got the invite about Emme's fashion show, my first thoughts were, "Who is Emme?" With me being the sorta fashionista, I felt bad that I didn't know who Emme was. I thought maybe she could be a designer who was showing her Fall collection. I should've done some research before I attended the event. But good thing my fashion maven bloggy boo Marie from The Curvy Fashionista explained to me who she was. Come to find out Emme is a close friend to Marie- how cool is that!

I took off an hour early from work, rounded up my girls from day care, and we were off to the Macy's fashion show!
It never fails when I attend events with my girls first thing they do is raid what ever food and drinks they can find- LOL!
We got the 5 star treatment of being able to have front row seating and get a up close look of Emme and the models. We were also served hors d' oeuvre while we were seated too- I told you 5 star treatment!
I got to meet and greet all my local blogger buddies while the girls and I patiently waited for the show to begin.
The show started a bit late but I didn't mind at all since it was a Friday night and I was just happy to be in attendance.
The presenter walked upstage and got the crowd ready for some fun with Emme. I was so anxious for Emme to walk out. I have never met a super model before and sitting there wondering how Emme would look in person had my mind racing.
Once Emme strutted out behind the curtains, I instantly felt a great connection with her. She was beautiful, wonderful spirit, great sense of humor, and had on a killer leopard jumpsuit on!
Emme went on and greeted the crowd and then introduced herself. She had us log onto our phones and tablets to a website to do one trivia question about herself. The question was, "Where was Emme raised?" Answer was Saudi Arabia but she was born in New York. She returned to the states when she was a teenager. While staying in Saudi Arabia, she witnessed women being treated poorly by getting stoned and they were not able to have a voice of their own. This makes you appreciate the freedom we have in our country to be free to be what we want, wear what we want, and have our own voice.
Emme also explained that she is a every day mom, cancer survivor, and helps show women to love their curves. She talked about how happy she was with the fashion industry to start catering to women that are full figured. Curvy girls can now look beautiful and have heads turning just like the women who wear single digit size clothing. No longer do they have to wear wide jeans ( which makes you look bigger ) and over-sized shirts.
Now, FASHION SHOW TIME! I noticed what were in trend for Fall featured in the show were leopard prints, ankle boots, camouflage prints, moto jackets, sweater dresses, wrap dresses, mix prints, skinny jeans, skirts, and warmer colored clothes.
Stand out brands worn during the show were Michael Kors, Jessica Simpson, and INC Internationals Concepts.
One of the models were wearing a pair of ankle boots by Giani Bernini I recently purchased from Macy's! Looks like my Fall fashions are off to a great start! The model had the cutest outfit on with those boots. That was my favorite outfit of the night!
It was great to see my mommy blog buddy Joyce from Mommy Talk Show strut it down the runway, she had the crowd roaring! She was very nervous before the show began but she walked down that runway like a pro alongside the other models.
Highlight of the show was when Joyce's son came onstage with her because he wanted to be with his mom. You know, a mother's job never ends and that was such a heartfelt moment- priceless!
Once the show ended, there was a questions and answers segment. Top questions were:
- Can you wear white after Labor Day? A lot of people said yes but a couple said no because it depends on where you're at. Like lets say you're in New York after Labor Day, you wouldn't wear white out there since it is one of the fashion capitals and the fashion rules are pretty strict out there. Well, I think people should wear whatever they want and that includes wearing white after Labor Day. Who cares what other people think!
- Does the word Plus Size sound offensive? A lot of people in the audience felt like this word sounds offensive. I'm not plus size so the word doesn't offend me but I know some people prefer the word curvy instead of plus size and full figured.
After the segment, we got to meet Emme! What a special moment that was and she loved my girls outfits, including mines. She even complimented me on my eyebrows! For her to squat down to my girls level and talk to them and take a picture with us this way made me love her even more! Emme is such a down to earth person that really cares about her fans! She is a person you should get to know and follow.
The event turned out great and the girls and I had a fabulous time! It was such a joyful experience to witness. This event gave me great ideas what to add to my Fall wardrobe. Hopefully I get invited to more fashion shows because I really enjoy learning about different fashion trends.
This is awesome, Louida! I'm so happy your girls got to experience this and see the first plus size supermodel and know that they don't have to be torturing themselves with diets to be physically beautiful. It looks like y'all had a great time!
ReplyDeleteThanks Candy! We sure did have a amazing time! I'm happy the girls got to hear about self love, no matter what you look like we are all beautiful!

ReplyDeleteNothing beats free food and drinks! LOL!
DeleteThanks for such a detailed post! I feel like I was there. I thought that whole wearing white after Labor Day rule was a thing of the past; who knew that it was still a debate, especially when I always see chic, winter white wool pants?! Shoot...Rock whatever you want with confidence! I love the trends that you mentioned are in for this season. I just saw a cute t-shirt that I want to buy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kimberly! I didn't think wearing white after Labor Day was still a debate either. I feel people should wear whatever they want, they purchased it, why not wear it!
DeleteThis event had a lot of cute styles to choose from.
Emme really seems like a genuine person.
ReplyDeleteI see lots of familiar faces in the front row. I would have loved to chat with Emme.
I wish you were still in Atlanta Reginia, it was a good event!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it was so fun! ATL living has all the perks! It would have been cool to meet Marie too.
ReplyDeleteATL sure does have a lot of perks! They treat bloggers great out here. Time for you to move here Stacie! It was great meeting Marie, such a humble person!
DeleteIt's after Labor Day and you don't even want to know what I am wearing. LOLOL!! It's not white but it isn't moving me into Fall either. I wear what I feel - period. I'm not plus size but I have to say, I have a cousin who is full-figured and she is always FIERCE!!!!!! *2 snaps*. What a lovely time. Looks like your girls had a ball. Boy do I miss Lenox Mall (I lived in ATL for 9 years). I hope you get to showcase some more fashions for us too - this was a fun post to read. #productreviewparty
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you wear what you want! Goodness, who the heck made up that no white after Labor rule anyway- so stupid! My outfit today is kind of Fall inspired but I'm wearing what I want to wear and not to please other people.
DeleteI don't go to Lenox Mall often but I can tell I will be a lot more because I'm starting to get invited to events there. I'm trying to get invited to events at the Mall of Georgia since it's more closer to me.
