Taking Some Time for Myself! Check Out What I Did!
Necklace and Shirt from NY & Company

Hey yall!  So ladies and gentlemen do you see this face above?  This face is a face of absolute joy because I was able to get some me time over the weekend.  Yes, some alone time without my daughters.  I love hanging out with my daughters but there are times I just need time to myself to just relax and recuperate.  With the girls back in school it took a lot of energy out of me because I had to drastically change my laid back schedule and now I’m constantly busy without any breaks unless I’m off to bed for the evening.

The girls spent a couple of nights last weekend with their grandmother while I gotten the needed rest without interruptions, get errands done, and also have a date night with Mr. M.

So, you’re wondering what stuff I got into?  Well my day off from the girls wasn’t a big ol’ party.  First, I parked myself on the couch with a bowl of granola and coconut milk and caught up on watching one of my favorite shows, Project Runway.

This season, who has my vote is Candice Cuoco.  She’s fierce, dark, and edgy and I love the styling of her clothes she designs. Women I see wearing her designs are hardcore bad a**es who knows what they want and stands out among the crowds.

Another designer I like on the show and I’m also rooting for is Ashley Nell Tipton, a plus size designer.  She makes clothing that curvy girls look good in and her clothes shapes the woman’s body so well.

After finishing up my granola cereal, I got dressed and went to the tag office since my tag on my car will be expiring on my birthday (September 18th) and also in the letter that they sent me said I couldn’t renew it online since I recently have moved this year (read about my move here).

Once I arrived at the tag office, I was mad to see that the line was out the door and into the parking lot.

Thank goodness my girls were not with me because they would’ve complained the whole time, "Mommy, my feet hurt!", "Mommy, why this line so long?", "Mommy, I'm bored!", and I don’t have time for all that!

Glad the line moved pretty quickly and it wasn’t raining outside or I would’ve just left and tried it again on another day.

After leaving the tag office, I went to Sally’s Beauty Supply Store to get hair rollers and new nail polish.  If you've noticed from my picture above my hair is not in its natural curly state and that is because I flat ironed it.  I got tired of re-twisting my hair every night and also wanted change with my hairstyle.  I always have those moments a few times a year to flat iron my hair and then later I regret it because my hair ends up with heat damage.  But hey, it’s just hair and it’ll grow back.

Next stop, Chipotle for lunch!  It’s like I eat Chipotle every week!  I love eating at their establishment; they take all of my money, lol!  I ate my chicken bowl that was topped with a little bit of white rice, black beans, chicken, grilled veggies, pico de gallo, corn, sour cream, guacamole, and a bit of lettuce at home.  All that food put me into a deep food coma.  I over did it on Chipotle!

After my deep sleep, I realized it was 6pm and it was time for Mr. M to be arriving home soon so he and I could go see Dick Gregory.  For those that don't know who Dick Gregory is:

Richard Claxton "Dick" Gregory (born October 12, 1932) is an American civil rights activist, social critic, writer, entrepreneur, and former comedian.

You see, I’m not into Dick Gregory, to be honest, I didn’t even know who the man was until one day while the whole family and I were road tripping to Florida, Mr. M had Dick Gregory playing on the radio through his Bluetooth and I told him to cut that mess off, I was not interested in hearing some old man ranting off (by the way, the girls were sleep when Dick Gregory was on).   Who wants to listen to all that when you’re headed to a fun place like Florida!

Mr. M recently had a birthday and as a birthday gift I purchased tickets for him to go see Dick Gregory live.  I wasn’t looking forward to seeing Dick Gregory in person but I was going to go there with an open mind and listen to what he had to say.

We arrived at the event about a half an hour late so Mr. M and I missed the opening act.  Dick Gregory walked on stage while we were finding our seats and for a man his age (83) he sure does have some pep in his step.

But when he opened his mouth and started spewing all this hate, rants, and sexually explicit stuff I was turned immediately off.  This man holds nothing back and he really tells it like it is about how he feels about things.  Dick Gregory said the n word about a 1000 times along with the word p***y!  OMG!!!!!  I found myself laughing here and there but couldn’t take his racist rants.  With the world today so divided I feel the stuff that he says doesn’t make it any better.

I believe racism starts at home.  Children are not born racists; it is the way they're raised.  If parents would raise their children to respect people no matter what their skin color or religious beliefs are then we wouldn’t have so much hate going on in the world today.

But I will say he did speak some truth and really make you stop and think about things.

In spite of all the ranting, I did enjoy having a date night with Mr. M; times like these are needed for the both of us.

When the show was over, we picked up our girls from grandma’s house and enjoyed the rest of the weekend together.

When do you find the time to have some "me time"?

  1. Hi Lou...Glad you had the much needed ME TIME. I certainly understand and being that I'm a single mother, I rarely have that alone time. However I've learn to appreciate the moments alone while going to hair salon, nailshop and grocery store. Whenever I just can't take it anymore, my wonderful parents come to my rescue so that I can have my getaways. I believe we can only be our best when we are performing at our best. Thank you for sharing your ME TIME. It's definitely a must for busy moms.

    1. Yay for Chipotle! I'm happy you enjoy Dick Gregory sis! He does speaks the truth but during this event he wasn't serious and pretty much was only doing comedy.

  6. I haven't listened to modern Dick Gregory, only old stuff, but the brotha is a legend and drops some knowledge. I agree that children aren't born racists, its a learned flaw. I'm so glad you had a fun Moms Day Out! Your hair looks amazing. What was your routine?

    1. For how I did my hair in this picture I washed and conditioned it, used a leave-in conditioner, used a heat protection spray while flat ironing. I use virgin coconut oil to keep my hair moisturized.

I guess Dick Gregory was just trying to be more laid back and funny. I hope if I do see him live again he'll drop more knowledge.
