Hey Yall! I can't believe it; just can't believe I met thee, Betsey Johnson, this past weekend! This woman is a freakin' fashion legend, OMG!
I love her spirit, her over the top, larger than life attitude. She is the type that you want in your inner circle, bringing fabulousness to your life! This woman will have you gagging, sashaying, snapping your finger, yass hunty, yassss!!!! She's still doing the damn thang at the age of 73! I hope I'm as sassy and spunky like her when I get her age.
ABOUT BETSEY JOHNSON
Betsey Johnson started the label in 1978 and her commitment to remain true to her one-of-a-kind vision has afforded continued success in the fashion industry for more than 30 years. Beginning in 2004, the Betsey Johnson label expanded as a lifestyle brand with the introduction of intimates, handbags and leather goods, footwear, bridal, kids, dresses, watches, jewelry, eyewear, swimwear, legwear, outerwear, luggage, fragrance active wear and home. Today the distribution is in over 2,000 specialty boutiques and an established wholesale business in both domestic and international markets.
A few weeks back, I received an invitation to meet Betsey at my local mall, Mall of GA. I didn't hesitate, I would love to meet this fashion queen, so I confirmed my attendance to be at the event. I was told to arrive early since they put me down as media to meet her privately.
Welp y'all, I got to the event when it was about to start, so I didn't get a chance to meet her personally, all thanks to me trying to get a little extra sleep in and traffic was a nightmare. But hey, it's all good, I still got to meet her.
The event was at Dillard's, and the girls and I arrived about 45 minutes before Betsey made her grand entrance. I checked in with the event crew to let them know I was there, and they added me to the VIP line.
Boy did it feel like I walked into a club, DJ spinning the hottest tunes, host celebrity blogger and TV personality, Micah Jesse had the crowd on their feet dancing and chanting, "Betsey, Betsey, Betsey!"
My girls were not amused. They were like, "When is this woman coming out? We're tired of waiting. We want to meet her, take this picture with her, and be out!" LOL! My girls can be a mess sometimes!
2'o clock came, and out came Betsey, anointing us with rose petals, showering it everywhere. The crowd was roaring, people were in tears! Screaming fans yelling out "BETSEY WE LOVE YOU!!!!" I'll admit, I became a bit star struck too. I was waiting for her to bust out with a cartwheel and into her signature split, but it didn't happen, that would've made my whole day, weekend, week, month, year! But with the crowd in the way of my view, I probably wouldn't get a good shot of it anyway. She yelled out to the crowd hi and that she is sorry her hair is a mess, she needs to go back to London to get it done. LAWD!! She's hilarious!
VIP line went quickly; then I was next to the fashion icon. Goodness, this woman is a tiny little thing! She doesn't even look like she's in her 70's! Such an ageless beauty!
She told my girls how pretty they were; she loved Lauren's shoes and gave us all a big hug each. We sat down together, and Betsey asked us, "Do you all have any men in your lives?" I told her, "I do, but my girls better not have one, unless it's their father!" Betsey started crackin' up! My daughters are too young to have a boyfriend, they better not have one until they're an adult, I'm serious!
We squeezed in tightly together on her couch and had our picture taken with her. Cheese!
We didn't stick around, just way too crowded. But we did return hours later, and I picked up a pair of Betsey Johnson earrings that I thought were super cute, a couple of golden dragons. I asked a Dillard's associate did everyone at the event got a chance to meet Betsey? And she said yes, every last one of them, even though the event ended at 4 pm, Betsey wanted to make sure all her fans got a chance to meet her. Betsey is a sweetheart!
Currently, her spring collection has a lot of floral prints, which is my favorite! Some of her clothing is a bit too over the top for me, but I can do floral. She has solid colors too if you're into simple silhouettes. With solid colors, you can add on all kinds of different accessories, and printed shoes to make your outfit pop.
Below are my picks of favs from Betsey Johnson Spring Collection:
