Hey Yall! Before I begin my spring break and go on blogging hiatus, I want to recap about the Texture on the Runway event I went to last night.
The event was presented by NaturallyCurly who I've followed since the beginning of my natural hair journey. I would get my tips and hair advice on their website in regards to taking care of my hair in its natural texture. Also, a lot of the first natural hair bloggers and YouTubers got their start partnering with NaturallyCurly and went on to do big things in their careers.
Hair took center stage at the event, showcasing the latest styles, trends, and products for every hair type. Guests were one of the firsts to check out Smooth 'n Shine's newly formulated Curl line and Straight line haircare products!
Smooth 'n Shine has a brand new look, and it's 100% You! Your identity, confidence, and style. With fine ingredients and high-performance formulas, these products will help you love your hair every day, every way.
At first, I wasn't for sure if I've heard of this brand before, then it dawned on me while at the event, I use to use their polisher. It was an okay product, but eventually, I stopped using it. I'm glad to see that it is back and better than ever!
The invite-only event was in downtown Atlanta, with Atlanta's top beauty influencers, media, and buyers in attendance.
Also with special guests:
Celebrity hairstylist, Larry Sims, one of the most sought-after hair stylists in the entertainment industry today whose clients include Kerry Washingon, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lupita Nyong'o, Mary J Blige, and Zendaya.
Nikia Phoenix, model, and creator of Black Girl Beautiful, a site, and event devoted to empowering and uplifting black women while offering the best in beauty and self-care.
Nikki Nelms client roster includes many favorite celebrities such as Beyonce, Janelle Monae, Kelly Rowland, La La Anthony, LaTanya Jackson, Serena Williams, Solange, and Zoe Kravitz.
Antonia Opiah, founder of Un-ruly.com which gained national and international attention through its short film, You Can Touch My Hair.
Tahira Joy Wright, founder of The Cut Life, a social movement focused on content for women who rock short hair.
NaturallyCurly co-founder and author of "The Curl Revolution: Inspiring Stories and Practical Advice from the NaturallyCurly Community," Michelle Breyer.
Runway makeup by celebrity makeup artist and beauty influencer, Mimi J.
I brought my girls along with me because I want them to see the beauty of natural black hair and women embracing their God-given curls. Natural black hair is so versatile, beautiful, thick, luscious! Can be worn in so many different ways, as curly, twist-out, straight, color, shaved, and so much more! With the media still promoting black women with long weaves and wigs, I want my girls to know that they are beautiful just the way they are, and no need to change to be accepted by societies standards.
I love the fact that the event was such a welcoming environment for the girls and me, pretty much everyone was sharing with the girls how much they loved their hair and asking what products we use. Since I'm a hair product junkie, I'm not loyal to one brand, and our product usage changes each season depending on our hair needs. But, our go-to we can't live without is ECO Styler Gel, the brown one (10). That keeps our hair tamed, and curls poppin'!
And guess what y'all!
I conquered my fears and got interviewed on video for NaturallyCurly, Curl Talk TV! Before the runway show, I was having a chat with Michelle Breyer about young girls needing positive influences about their hair. In Michelle's elementary school, little girls are already wearing sew-in/glue-in weaves. And I'm not talking about braids; I don't have a problem with that. Young girls scalps are still maturing, so having all that tension will damage their own hair. And suffering hair loss so young can be devastating, lowering their self-esteem.
After expressing about hair concerns with young girls, Michelle Breyer told me she needs to have me on video ASAP speaking about this topic! And she took me to the interview section of the venue.
I was a bit nervous at first, but I just pretended like I was having a conversation with a girlfriend, and the interview flowed smoothly. I'm unsure when my interview will go live, but it'll be somewhere on NaturallyCurly's website, be on the lookout for it.
The girls and I had front row seats to watch the models strut their stuff and rock out their hairdos down the runway. After that, there was a mini-panel discussion.
Before the night was over, everyone was gifted a bag of full-size Smooth 'n Shine hair products!
Today, I used one of the Smooth 'n Shine products, the styling custard after I washed and conditioned my hair. I used it on my hair while wet before I twisted my hair with ECO Styler gel. The styling custard gave my hair incredible shine, full of moisture. Moisture is needed when using gels since gels attend to dry out the hair. Honestly, if I ever wanted to do a wash and go, I would use this custard because it had my curls so bouncy with no tangles or frizz.
Welp, I got to finish packing. Talk to you all soon!
Remember, follow me on Instagram and Instastories to see what I'm up to during my spring break.
So nice! I used to love going to the natural hair show in Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteAtlanta always have the best events going on!
DeleteWhat a fun event and it's great to see there are products that are healthier and safer to use! Being half Hawaiian, my hair is naturally all curly as well, but so many products are just so harsh or toxic! I
