We meet again Mitsubishi, this time in the city by the bay, San Francisco!
It has been over two years since I've last reviewed a Mitsubishi Outlander, but this time around I got to drive around the East Bay in 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.4 SEL AWC, a more sporter version than the regular seven-passenger Outlander, and a bit more trendy too, not looking like a station wagon.
Although the Outlander Sport SEL has a better look than the regular Outlander, it is a tad smaller and had me worried if it'll fit two large suitcases. But thankfully it had enough cargo space, and privacy cover so no one walking by can see our pieces of luggage in the back trunk.
Doing a walk around the Mitsubishi Sport, it looked a little like the small Mazda CX's with the wide chrome grille and slanted back to front. The Mercury Gray Metallic Exterior, along with the chrome wheels gives the car a sharp look, making me surprised that this car is a Mitsubishi.
The inside of the 2018 Mitsubishi Sport has a soft black leather seating and enough leg room for all passengers. Specific areas of the car have hard black plastic on the inside which to me cheapens this crossover vehicle. However, the dashboard area has a soft touch surface and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
What made me happy to see is the navigation display screen graphics are much bolder, higher quality, because before it was generic looking. The current navigation system has all your standard apps, like Apple Carplay and Android Auto, AM/FM audio system, and Digital HD Radio.
The Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio sound system is still fantastic! Having nine speakers throughout the car, it'll have you rocking out to your favorite tunes while enjoying the ride around the city admiring all the views. Open up the Panoramic Glass Roof and let all that Cali sunshine and breeze in, getting a real feel of the west coast!
Safety features like Forward Collision Mitigation, and Lane Departure Warning helps keep you safe from getting into an accident. The way the traffic is in Northern California, these features are much needed.
What had me like wow with this car was the 4-wheel drive, driving the hills of San Francisco is brutal and quite scary, and this 2018 Mitsubishi Sport handled it exceptionally well. No rolling back or forward on hills.
With the small car stature, we can park the car on the streets and in parking stalls easily. And when I lock the car, automatically the side mirrors close, so no worries about someone bumping into it.
I drove this car all over the bay, from San Francisco, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville, Oakland, and then back to San Francisco, and only had to gas up once. The fuel economy 25 combined city/hwy, so not that bad on gas. The gas rating is 5 out of 10, so it's in-between. And with high gas prices in California, this is a car you'll need. It's not efficient driving around big SUV's unless you like to make it rain at gas stations.
Total MSRP for a fully-loaded 2018 Outlander Sport 2.4 SEL AWC is $29,110.00, so you get a lot of bang for your buck with this vehicle. Great for students, small families, and singles.
Disclosure: I was provided this car free for review purposes, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved the roominess of the front seating area and of course the navigation system and speakers! #PRP
