Over the weekend, the girls and I hit up The Ultimate Sugar Show, Georgia's Largest Baking and Sweet Conference at the Cobb Galleria.
Now, I'm no cook or baker, well at least I try to be, but attending this convention was all for Michelle who loves to bake. Her passions for baking started several years ago after watching kids her age living out their dreams of delicious baking treats on The Food Network.
Michelle inspires to have a baking business, baking up tasty cakes, cupcakes, and cookies for her future customers.
By going to the family-friendly The Ultimate Sugar Show, I wanted her to get hands-on learning and inspiration from other bakers to strengthen and grow her current skills.

When we first got to the big Sugar Show event, the girls and I walked around to see what the convention had to offer.
We stopped, looked, and shopped at some of the vendors so Michelle can have baking supplies to make her yummy treats at home. She wanted supplies that professional bakers use, not something you find in regular grocery stores.
I was quite surprised to see how much knowledge Michelle knew about products needed to create her dessert masterpieces. She had me stumped when she was requesting different items from vendors. I stepped back and let her do all the talking.
After our shopping excursion, the girls did a quick piping class learning how to pipe cream on top of their cupcakes. It looks easy to do, but it takes some practices to create the perfect swirl, creamy tops. After adding the swirly buttercream, they added on the sprinkles. I couldn't resist and had to take a bite of their creations.
Also in the vendor room, competitions were going on throughout the show, the notable one was the four-dimensional cakes shaped of realistic people from shows and movies and beautifully made stacked cakes. My goodness, the incredible skills to create such pieces! I wouldn't even want to eat these artistic masterpieces, just sit them on display and admire them all day.
We caught one cooking class about decorating fall and Thanksgiving cookies with the winner of Food Network's " Cake Wars," Reva Alexander-Hawk. She's sarcastic, funny, and a great dessert decorator was making it look easy. Everyone in class came ready to learn with pen and paper in hand jointing down information they were learning from Reva. The special techniques Reva shared with the class can be used to create gorgeous cookies this holiday season like marbling, dipping cookies in frosting the correct way, piping, and so on.
On stage, several local Food Network baking championship kids were sharing about their life after being on The Food Network. The Junior Chef Quani attends both of my daughters' middle school, and he is well known around the city. I wish he made his scrumptious treats at their school for students to buy during lunch.
Kids and parents gathered around to listen to these junior chefs sharing their stories of how they got on the show, what they are doing now, and showing that kids like them can be chefs, no matter the age. Seeing this gave Michelle a boost of confidence that she too can live out her dreams of owning a bakery business.
I want to give thanks to Kim from Adonai Desserts Atlanta for the passes to this sweet event. Make sure to visit her website at www.adonaicookieshoppe.com for delicious homemade treats.
Oh my gosh, look at those cakes! Amazing! I like to bake but only around the holidays. I do want that cake couch though.
ReplyDeleteThat cake couch is the cutest! I met the person that made it at the event.
