You get to discover Japan through the snacks what Japanese eat in their country. Inside these curated boxes are authentic Japanese snacks, candies, and teas delivered to your door from Japan.
Each month is a different fun theme, and the box that was provided to me is the April edition, a celebration of Sakura (cherry blossom) season. During the beginning of spring at the Hanami Festival, Japan attracts waves of people to see the beautiful Sakura trees sprout from their hibernating states into lush pink and white blossoming colors.

The snacks inside the box came from different parts of Japan, which made me get a more prominent feel of what Japanese like eat in their country, not just in one area.
Check out the snacks that I got in my April Edition Hanami Festival Box:
Handmade Sakura Candy (Product of Kyoto)- Bokksu is so excited to bring this handmade Sakura Candy made exclusively for Bokksu! Sakura in Japan symbolizes ephemerality and the fleeting quality of life. Like the Sakura that fades away at the end of the season, this candy dissolves lightly on the palate with a sweet and floral flavor.
Spring Sakura Senbei (Product of Hokkaido)- This thin cracker has a lot of flavor going on: preserved sakura blossoms, mirin (sweet sake), and squid, to name a few. In fact, squid is the main ingredient of this senbei! Squid is a favorite food in Japan during the spring and goes surprisingly well with the salty yet floral tang of the pickled sakura flowers.
Kakinotane (Product of Niigata Prefecture)- Kakinotane is a classic Japanese snack mix of crescent-shaped senbei and peanuts. The snack mix packs a powerful punch of traditional Japanese plum and shiso (perilla leaf). Sharp and a little spicy, it blends pickled plum, shiso, and paprika. The buttery peanuts are the perfect balance of dominant flavors.
Sakura Mochi (Product of Nagano Prefecture)- Mochi is a traditional Japanese rice cake made by pounding steamed mochigome (glutinous mochi rice). After being sweetened and flavored, it's rolled in rice flour to keep it from sticking.
Sakura Karinto (Product of Hokkaido)- Karinto is a traditional fried dough snack popular throughout Japan.
Suppa Mucho Plum Potato Sticks (Product of Tokyo)- These thin crispy potato sticks are bursting with flavor with every bite carrying the floral notes of plum blossoms, the sourness of pickled plum, and earthiness of perilla leaves.
Sakura Chocolate Crepe (Product of Osaka)- This is a wafer-thin crepe baked and rolled up for crisp layers, along with white-chocolate infused with powdered sakura petals.
Ebi Crunch Black Pepper (Product of Niigata Prefecture)- Ebi Crunch Black Pepper is packing heat with a mix of pepper flavors of rice crackers and peanuts.
Sakura Chinsuko (Product of Okinawa)- This adorable Sakura Chinsuko cookie is shaped, flavored, and colored like a Japanese cherry blossom. It's similar in texture to a shortbread cookie and carries delicate flavors like Sakura.
Cheese Okaki Plum Flavor (Product of Niigata Prefecture)- This rice cracker has a cheesy center with a unique plum flavor seasonally exclusive for the spring season.
Spring Gold Green Tea (Product of Fukuoka Prefecture)- This beautiful tea package was designed exclusively for Bokksu. Sencha is a traditional steamed Japanese green tea with this particular tea having a strong flavor.
I enjoyed this box a lot and appreciated the fact that they explain more in detail about each snack, even common allergies of each item.
I use to think that Japanese snacks were sweeter in taste; however, the Bokksu box showed more of a variety of sweet and salty snacks.
Make sure to watch our video to see what we thought of each snack inside our box. Some were good, and some had us gagging! I love having these authentic Japanese snack delivered to my doorstep!
By the way, Bokksu sells these snacks individually as well, so go check out their website for their online marketplace too.
Disclosure- This is a complementary box, all thoughts and opinions are our own.
