Check out this 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross XLE AWD! I was surprised when I heard Toyota Corolla now also comes as a subcompact SUV. I remember when Toyota Corollas were small four-door sedans and also hatchback vehicles. And, before my time, station wagons!
The Corolla went through many changes throughout the years. But still, a great, affordable car. Also, I like that it comes in different styles and options!
Did you know that my first car was a Toyota Corolla? My mom passed down her Corolla to me when she upgraded to a Camry. So many fun memories of me driving around in the Corolla. Toyota's brand played a big part in my life, and that's why they'll always be my #1 favorite brand!
When it comes to the Toyota Corolla Cross, it's smaller than the RAV4, but not by much; however, it does have quite a bit of cabin and cargo space.
Even though the Toyota Cross is more of an economy SUV, the XLE trim provides luxury features at a great price of $33K. But for those not needing all the bells and whistles, the starting price starts at 24K.
I took the Toyota Cross for a spin to Orlando, Florida, for our annual end-of-the-year trip. During our drive to and from Florida, I discovered what I liked and disliked about the car. Here are the Pros and Cons of the 2022 Toyota Cross.
PROS
Space: As I mentioned, Toyota Cross has a lot of room for a subcompact SUV. It may be smaller than a RAV-4, but it fits my family of four, plus a large and medium suitcase in the trunk.
Heated Front Seats: Florida had unseasonably cold weather, and the heated front seats came in handy. It made me nice and cozy in my seat, not wanting to step outside in the frigid cold.
Clean Look: Toyota Cross has a clean, sophisticated look. It gives the Cross its own personal style from the rest of Toyota's line-up. So, for those looking for a simple-looking yet chic vehicle, the Toyota Cross is the perfect pick.
LED Headlights: While in Florida, I had to drive on back roads with minimal lighting, and the LED headlights helped brighten the road view ahead of me. And when it was pitch black and dark, the automatic head beam fog lights came on to help improve my view of the road.
Fully Digital Gauge Cluster: The 7-inch fully digital gauge cluster use the steering-wheel-mounted controls to keep track of real-time driving data, turn-by-turn directions, safety information, and alerts.
Front and Rear Parking Assist: The front and rear parking assist came in handy while tightly squeezing in parking spots at different malls we visited. And with the holiday crowds, the car audibly and visually warns you when it detects objects, people walking by, or vehicles approaching from the rear. The Cross also has automatic braking.
Safety Features: As with all Toyota's vehicles, they provide safety features to keep you and your passengers safe on the road. The Toyota Cross offers Blind Spot Monitoring and also Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Plus more!
Price: Toyota Cross is affordable, especially for the top XLE trim. You get a lot of bang for your buck!
CONS
Acceleration: The acceleration is slow with the Toyota Cross. It takes a while for the vehicle to pick up speed.
Fuel Economy: The Toyota Cross was a hit-and-miss regarding fuel economy. It was great that it didn't cost much to fill the gas tank; however, I found myself at the gas station often. So the Toyota Cross must have a small gas tank. Usually, my drive to and from Orlando takes just one tank of gas, but with the Cross, I had to stop for gas twice.
The Toyota Corolla Cross makes an excellent vehicle for teens, small families, young adults, and seniors.
It may not be the best vehicle for road trips, but it's a perfect car to drive around town locally.
