What a great way to start winding down the summer break by attending the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo!
I shared about this convention a couple of times, and I'm excited we could return this year since we missed out last year due to Lauren having to work.
About Southern-Fried Gaming Expo
The Southern-Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta celebrates all things gaming. The three-day event features arcade games, pinball machines, tabletop games, and more. Special guests, panel discussions, and workshops are also included, making it a must-visit event for gaming enthusiasts.
Lauren didn't want to miss this year's event, so she took Saturday off. Her goal was to play some retro games and check out the vendor hall to buy games and movies.
As for me, I wanted to play some of the pinball machines and check out some panels.
As previously mentioned, we only attended one of the three days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We were only there on Saturday. However, it seemed like we didn't miss out on much, as upon checking the Expo's app schedule, it appeared that more activities were scheduled for Saturday.
When we first got there, I purchased our tickets, and then we were off to the gaming hall, which also had vendors spread out throughout.
Lauren was amazed at the prices offered by the vendors. Some were selling movies for $1-$5! What a deal! There were also low prices on video games.
After shopping, we looked at everything before deciding what to do next.
What caught my eye were the old-school computers. All those systems brought back memories of watching my dad play solitaire on his computer in his home office and of computer class in elementary school.
I love how the Expo displayed the computers as if we were entering a computer museum. We could also check out the price of the computers back in the day, which, by the way, was very expensive!
Also, we were able to play on the computers.
Remember the Oregon Trail game?
The Oregon Trail game was a classic! It was so nostalgic to play it again at the Expo. I remember spending hours on that game during computer class in elementary school. It was great to see all the old-school computers and relive those memories.
Other games I played were the pinball machines (I'm rusty at playing), Nintendo Duck Hunt, Super Smash Bros, Pac-Man, and so much more!
After gaming, I attended a panel and watched some retro commercials that had me laughing to tears. It's incredible how, back in the day, brands put more thought into their commercials, creating memorable jingles and making them playful and funny. It's also interesting how many actors got their start with commercials.
Now, the only time people watch commercials is during the Super Bowl.
I wish we could have gone all three days because we had a blast! This Expo brought back so many memories of playing various games with my family, and it brings me joy to revisit my childhood with my own children.
Playing games, regardless of the type, provides a great escape from the world around us. I appreciate how this family-friendly gaming expo brings people together for a nostalgic, wholesome, fun weekend!
If you're in Atlanta and love gaming, you should check out this summer expo!
Purchase your tickets online for the best price because prices are higher at the door.
