This year, I celebrated my birthday at JapanFest Atlanta!
You all know I love attending different conventions throughout the year. JapanFest has been an event I have attended on and off for several years.
I don't attend every year because it falls near my birthday, and sometimes, I travel somewhere, but this year, I wanted to celebrate my special day locally and attend JapanFest.
I briefly discussed JapanFest when I went for my 34th birthday and met the English-singing voice of Sailor Moon. I have attended several times since then, but I want to share more about JapanFest because it is worth attending for those who love Japanese heritage.
About JapanFest Atlanta
JapanFest Atlanta is an annual event showcasing Japan's rich culture and heritage.
It's a vibrant celebration featuring many activities and attractions, making it a must-visit for anyone.
This two-day event offers a variety of events for all ages, such as:
- Performances: Enjoy traditional Japanese performances such as taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, and cultural dances.
- Cultural Exhibits: Explore exhibits showcasing Japanese art, history, and traditions.
- Food: Indulge in authentic Japanese cuisine, from sushi and ramen to sweet treats like mochi and green tea ice cream.
- Shopping: Discover unique Japanese products, including crafts, clothing, and accessories.
- Workshops: Attend hands-on workshops to learn about Japanese arts and crafts, such as calligraphy, origami, and ikebana.
- Children's Activities: Kids can enjoy special activities designed just for them, including games, crafts, and cultural experiences.
We don't attend both days, only on Saturday. And to ensure we could do as much as possible, we arrived early.
Since we arrived early, we thought we would beat the crowd, but unfortunately, it seemed like everyone else had the same idea.
JapanFest has grown so much each year, which is excellent, but I think they have now outgrown the venue space at Gas South Convention Center.
I felt we were on top of each other in the different rooms, especially in the vendor hall/food hall.
It made the experience less enjoyable.
But, towards the end of the event, when people started leaving, I made my rounds again to different areas in the convention to ensure I didn't miss much.
Even though JapanFest was crowded, I did manage to do a lot, like catch a drum performance, visit different vendors, and learn about Japanese fashion.
I told Lauren, who came with me that we need to sign up for workshops next time. I love doing crafts and being able to take them home as souvenirs.
So, despite the overcrowding, JapanFest Atlanta remains a captivating celebration of Japanese culture and heritage. The array of activities, performances, and authentic experiences make it a worthwhile event for anyone interested in Japanese traditions.
I'm already looking forward to attending again and participating in the enriching workshops to further immerse myself in the beauty of Japan.
Make sure to check out other conventions I have visited.
